Hey guys, been a whiiiiile since I posted last. I have been slammed. This new website I have been working on has kept me in the cave. Please excuse the delayed post..
Fortunately, I had the opportunity to host a Tailwaters group up to Alaska a few weeks ago. This was really fun for me for the fact that I worked as guide at this lodge (Unalakleet River Lodge) for the past three summers. I can’t tell you how weird it was going up there as a guest! All the staff at the lodge took great care of us and we all ended up having an incredible week. I was in charge of documenting this trip through photographs and video. Shooting video is something new to me and I ended up shooting far to much. This actually cut my time as a photographer down, which I wasn’t happy about. I did, however snap some cool shots.
Fishing was great as always at the Unalakleet River. Coho’s and chum were in thick, dollies were everywhere and grayling were annihilating mouse patterns! Rain had pounded the river prior to and throughout the week we were there, resulting in a blown out river. This was good and bad. Bad for the reason that the main river was blown, muddy, and tough to find fish. Good for the reason that the North river was now navigable to areas we hadn’t ever been able to fish. We explored water I have wanted to see ever since I started guiding. It was incredible.
I’ll stop blabbering now and let the photos explain the rest….
The grayling were on these mouse patterns faster than you could shake your rod tip….soo fun.

Those are some awesome shots! Hopefully I’ll get to get up that way one of these days and do the same. Thanks for a great report.
Git ‘er done son! Great job. I see you got the underwater housing out. Nice. My favorite has to be the “stretching rod” photo. That is a very unique perspective. How wide is that lens you are using? Looks to be 10 or 12mm.
