MemberHey everyone.
I’ve been perusing the board and I’m really impressed by the depth ogf knowledge here and some of the gorgeous photos.

J A Y M O R RMemberBoth are great camera systems. I think you will be happy with either of them. Go with the one that feels comfortable. Both should be ok with a light mist or rain, this can also be solved with a waterproof bag or rain sleeve when not in use. A lot of people get caught up in the MP game. 10.1mp is more than enough to cover standard print sizes. I am personally not a huge fan of DSLR vid… It is cool, but there are plenty of vid. cameras that will do a much better job. Both camera makers have made vast improvements to video/functionality in their pro-bodies.
Hope this helps:

David AndersonMemberI can’t help you with much info about wither camera, but I will add a couple points to the above.
1. newer is (IMHO) better when it comes to DSLR’s because they get faster processing with each generation and generally better menu set-ups & functionality.
2. The plasticky thing is good and bad in that it saves weight to have a light camera, but always feels less substantial in the hand.
It wouldn’t make much difference to weather sealing and again, both would be better than you might think in the rain & dust.dpreview.com
A good site for camera reviews..

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

MemberIf I could go back and start over all again on the same budget I had to start with, I’d buy a pro Nikon or Canon body used from a reputable member of Fred Miranda or POTN. That budget today would buy a 5d Classic, or a 1D mk2 in the Canon line easily.
I spent alot of money that I could have avoided trying to get to where I am now with gear that I’m happy with.

MemberForget about judging by mega-pixels with what is currently offered its not going to make a huge difference.

John BennettMemberWhat everyone else has said.
Imo, deciding C/N really boils down such nit picky things me I don’t personally care. If someone put comparable bodies on a table in front of me, blindfolded me, and said pick one.I’d be happy with either.
If I was to start all over with what I now know. I’d still go Canon but that’s due some lenses Canon has, that Nikon doesn’t. They have comparable, but not quite. Conversely if I was a wedding/studio photog I’m sure I’d go Nikon.
6 of one, half dozen of another with minor differences.

Ben CochranMemberDarn, I’m chiming in late again… Oh well, the D200 is a great system and very rugged, I have no doubt that you will love that body.
Had I chimed in earlier I would have suggested a nice little Hasselblad H4D, for ya; It insurers well and when the rip tide races by, snatching it from your grasp, it can almost float………………
