It was a brief window so we stung up the 9 wts and took advantage of it. Fished in wind and rain but it was WARM for a change. Fish are starting to gather in the usual places old Hickory Cove, Seven points, Bryant’s Grove, etc. The fishing wasn’t as good as it gets but it was steady. On Sat and we were lucky enough to be right in the middle of a big topwater blitz just around dark. I stand by my opinion that suspended fish that I chart in schools are much easier to catch then busting fish,,, but we did stick a few of the surface crashers. It was as good as I’ve seen it on top in a while! Now if I had a tank of live Shad when they were on the surface it’d been a massacre but we were fly only this trip.

Sunday pretty much sucked big time but a few nice fish were caught very few. Weather is everything and the big bite is yet to come.

Finally saw the adult Bald Eagle I’ve been hearing about too but of course I left my big zoom at home….. If I’d have had my 400 you’d be able to count the fish scales on his beak…

Tell me about it! I’ve had to turn away several trips so far this year and it isn’t looking any better anytime soon. Once the warm weather sticks around,,, and a stable weather pattern emerges our lake Hybrid and Striper will be full on. These are just the babies..

I hear you as well, we have the same kind of action in the Arkansas River which runs right through downtown Tulsa but the water has been so high, we just cant take advantage of it! I am itching to get out and the forecast just keeps getting worse and worse. Keep up the fishing, it helps us fellow anglers out who are cursed with high water!

Steve those green mirrors have been with me for a pretty long while. Best pair of Costas I’ve ever owned and I’ve gottten pretty attached to them. They are in rough shape but I still refuse to get new ones.

Lovely.  Pound for pound, I’d argue that hybrids are the hardest pulling freshwater fish.

I agree, if you’ve never caught one just imagine getting into a bed of seven to ten pound Bluegill. I love the take on the fly most of all. They hit like a freight train and once they feel the steel you better know how to feed the line back out smoothly and keep you’re hands clear of the reel handle. Craig got a good lesson Sat on how not to palm a reel with a fresh Hybrid pulling on the string. Brrrappappapapapapapapapa was the sound of the plastic reel handle meeting cold wet knuckles, all the while grinning from ear to ear. Man I love Striped fish!

Neal I’ve been told that the saying around here is, if you go out with Mike, tell your wife you’ll see her in the morning or Monday depending on where we fish. ;D. I like to fish from whenever till dark and then some. That usually goes for client trips too. If they’re casters and up to the challenge I’ll run the boat till they say uncle. When Striper season gets hot and the water is right, nighttime is magic time.

The night the pics were taken the fish were blowing up all around us as the sun set. It isn’t as dark as it looks though I just haven’t taken the time to explore flash photography enough to get perfect exposures. kinda hard to play with the camera when fish are blowing up all over the place.
