MemberThat is a beautiful fly box. I keep my worms in a plastic film canister.
That corn fly has park pond carp (or ducks) written all over it.

MemberZach — we have a surprising amount of aquatic worms around here in the West and the fish do definitely notice them. I started catching a lot more fish on some rivers when I finally started fishing them.

MemberZach,
I fished a SJW on the San Juan and didn’t catch a thing with it, or anywhere else I’ve tried it.
Another fly I fish faithfully and won’t give up on is a Double Bunny, never got a hit, lots of monster follows, I hope to change that soon.
Lando,
Sure wish we got lots of snow in Tennessee. Keep the photos coming.

MemberThe more snow we get, the better those vacations to Yellowstone, right?
I am going to send a dozen Gentleman worms out……..should I send them to Eric or the short bus house?

MemberI’ve caught more fish on SJW than any other sub-surface fly.

MemberZach. I have had 50+ fish days on assorted san juans on the Little Red and some good days on the white as well. It must be a bad juju thang for you and that fly. Further, I’ll be damned if I can catch anything on a prince nymph yet. Although we tend to fish with confidence the flies we have confidence in! Makes sense to me.
Micah, I have the same capilene long johns in perfect condition I bought at an REI in Berkley about 20 years ago for skiing and snowboarding that now are used for wading. There products are a great buy when you consider quality and how long they last. I have no reason to buy a differnt brand and also will be a fan for life.
Sweet looking worm box Lando. love the chamois worms also!

MemberI have found that the SJW (among others) produces pretty well around here 😀 .. Another box of worms!

Memberwhoa! i’ve never seen a blue worm before… tell me more.
Oct 14, 2008 at 4:11 pm #30067ethan smith
MemberYeah the blue worm is cool looking. Nice fly box, its so well organized.
I’ve heard that the average riverbed (water temp notwithstanding) have 4 times the population of worms in the soil beneath them than the average garden. And we all know that gardens are packed with them. So it stands to reason, worms like moist soil, riverbeds must be moist, etc etc…
That being said, I’ve never fished a SJW. But judging by the beasts of this thread maybe I should?

Lol .. I have no idea. A fishing buddy pulled out this box a couple of trips ago and I had to get a shot! The worm is a ‘pigsticker’. I like to tie them on a Daiichi Hook – 1770 (Swimming Nymph Hook).

What’s up with the Mc Donald’s French Fry flies in the worm box? Â Must be for lazy urban trout with obesity issues. Â ;D
I’m with Zach, never much confidence in wormin’…but I might have to change my ways.

That was from my buddy Kyner.

MemberIt is also a Vladi worm, condom worm, or one of many other names. Â The Poles, Czechs and other East Euros have been using them for years as anchors on the Czech nymph rigs. Â Same shape hooks, same materials, etc.
Thanks for the info. Looked up a couple of recipes … Wonder if I can find some blue condoms  😮
