I am back in northern MN for a class reunion. I had some free time yesterday, so my father-in-law and I went to a couple parks in Duluth. My pa-in-law is a big Canon shooter so he had an assortment of L-series glass he was using to shoot birds, flowers, and local architecture. I had my Pentax Optio W-60. Here’s some of what I got yesterday:
Dragonfly – we flushed about 200 of these guys out of a field and thought it would make a pretty decent macro excercise.
While I’m on bugs – I snapped a few of this ladybug up close. I think the macro mode on this little camera works pretty well:
Along the Lester River there’s an old stone fireplace:
We hit a rose garden in full bloom, burned lots of shots in there:
David Crosby is still alive and busking in Canal Park:
That’s what I think turned out best yesterday. Comments, thoughts, or suggestions to take up another hobby are greatly appreciated.
My father-in-law is not heavily pushing me into a DSLR, but he’s suggested that by understanding where this smaller camera is starting to limit me, I’m getting close. He’s offered to start selling me some of his old glass, including an EF-S 17-85 should I decide to go with Canon. I still like the feel of the Nikon better, but the possibility of scamming some nice lenses is appealing…

Nice shots Abe. I especially like #1 and #6. Just as a suggestion, you might try increasing the contrast/saturation on #1 and see if you like it or not. I love the detail you captured on the dragonfly. I think you would definitely benefit from a SLR.
