Does anyone know how to use the new Canon RAW format (6 I think) within CS4?

    Try updateing CS4 and ACR.
I cant recall, but I “think” the 7D was out before CS5.

At some point they always stop supporting older versions, and so when a new body comes out its files won’t be supported. However to the best of my knowledge/memory CS4 owners should be able to update ACR/PS so that current body files are readable.

Another option to prevent being unable to read older RAW files is to convert them to DNG. DNG is an open source RAW format created by Adobe, so all version of Adobe software, are able to read them. I have done that in the past until ACR catches up. I believe that the converter is built into Lightroom.

Lightroom can also make the conversion as the files are being imported. Many recommend do that, and not even using the camera format. It would prevent the problems you are currently having.
