    Hey guys-

My 18-70mm DX lens (the D70’s kit lens that is currently my walkaround lens) recently became a 24-40mm lens.

    Zach,

    Are you an NPS member?

    Zach,

You could get a NPS membership. Just have to submit proof that you are a published photographer and have a current NPS member sponsor you. I’d be happy to be your sponsor, except I let my NPS membership lapse since all my repairs go through the newspaper I work for.

Check out the Nikon web site for professional services and contact them, they’ll help you out.

BTW it sounds like one of the internal screws is loose on your lens, that is normally the cause of the zoom locking like that if it hasn’t been dropped or damaged

    John –

Any idea if it can be repaired here at the house?

I wish all the board members peace in the New Year.

I don’t know about the Nikon D70, but the kit lens with my Canon 30D which is the equivalent I believe is pretty cheap (about a $100 lens). Unless its under warranty I don’t know if it will be worth the repair cost unless NPS will work something out for you. Hope it works out for you.

John or Buzz – Does Canon have a Canon Professional Services in the US? Does anyone have the contact info?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Thanks Buzz. I got an email off to them. I just found sportsshooter the other day.

“Working Media,” I’ve always liked that line.

Zach, I wouldn’t attempt any home repair on the lens. There are lots of little bearings and springs that just “POP” out when doing that kind of thing. And, as eye2fish said, that lens is rather “cheap.” And, if you open up the lens yourself, you void the warranty.

    Hey JP –

The next lens we buy will most likely be the 12-24mm DX; that is a functional walkaround lens for most of the work I do (I just wish it could go macro).

    Zach,

One of the Sportsshooter members has a 18-70 for sale for $200
Just wanted to let you know

The 12-24 is a great lens.
