It seems like all my fly fishing related photos from the past year have been still life or product style shots. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t make it out on the water. Then again, what other kind of fly fishing related shot can I make at 12:30 am on a week night?
I figured the pheasant tail on the old built in cutting board in my kitchen would make for an interesting set up. I placed the scissors in and loved the lines/shapes that I was able to create with their placement.

This is pretty close to the out of camera image. I just did some burning in PS.

I think I’ve been inspired by memories of looking at cabela’s catalogs as a kid.

I really like it do you have more to show? And can you tell me more about the setting and light you used.

N0MAD, the set up was really simple but unorthodox. This was set up on a built in cutting board that comes out of the counter in my kitchen. My apartment is around 85yrs old so the wood of the cutting board is nicely aged. I’m not sure if it is part of the original cabinet work or not, but it has been there for quite a while.
I set my small strobe, a sunpak 383, on the cutting board behind the subject. I aimed the flash straight up into a white plastic bowl that was sitting on the counter top. All I did was hang the bowl over the edge just a little bit to allow for the light illuminate the bowl and bounce back down on the subject.
I have some more shots from this set up but haven’t gone through and processed them yet.
