I recently was asked to contribute suggestions for one of the magazines’ yearly product awards, and the editor included “gear that stands the test of time.”

If you were asked to name your all-time favorite piece of fly fishing gear, from any category, what would it be and why?

    Lamson Litespeed

    Beadhead Flashback Pheasant Tail

    Smartwool

I tried to approach the question by imagining fly fishing life before and after…     What products / innovations made a distinct before and after impression.  My life before the litespeed, pheasant tail and smartwool sucked.  But now its great.

The single item that has improved my fishing experience has been the introduction of craft beers in cans to the marketplace. Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale is my favorite. Now I can enjoy a delicious ale without the hindrance of a heavy, dangerous, or prohibited glass bottle.

    Agree with Lando, Windstopper.

I’d also add synthetic down now that I live in Minnesota.
