Just wanted to post this on the internet – I have been using one of those SportDog radio collars you see in Cabelas with our dog Mae for several years.

I agree about CS Zach! I’m always relieved to hear an American accent when I have to call…

Those collars do work great. I started my Lab out on one when he was about 8 months. I kept it on 2 and only had to go to 4 one time. He would see our neighbor’s dog and nothing would stop him from running away with that dog. The fourth setting did an outstanding job of stopping him. I haven’t had to use it in over a year now and he stays in the yard when we let him out. The collar helped but he is a Lab so I swear he just understands what I’m saying.

Now that I think of it one of the prongs on my charger is broken I need to call them and get it replaced.

Mike it was $8 plus shipping for a new set, and they have apparently redesigned them so they won’t be as prone to breakage.

I once set the thing to 8 and tried it on myself – holy mother of God that thing hurts.

I did it on my hand and immediately dropped the collar and howled.

The E-collar is not meant for punishment but for correction they are not the same thing. The power level in the collar is sized for the size of the dog but you don’t necessarily up the power setting because the dog has a thicker neck you use longer contacts and make sure the collar is tight enough. I see way to many people(mainly hunters) that think they can train the animal with the button and not proper training of the handler.

So, I shouldn’t have hooked it onto my cats back? kiddin ;D

A cat will find a way to get even with you when you are the most vulnerable. Do you really want to risk it.
