MemberOver the weekend I had the pleasure of watching a great DVD. Once in a Blue Moon documents an rare and amazing occurrence in New Zealand- A mouse year –
If you are into angling, biology, botany, photography, cinematography, geography or just the outdoors in general, there is something in this film for you.
You will see film of trout behavior that will make you reach for your waders and rod-
I am not affiliated with On The Fly and Carl McNeil did not put me up to this. I found this to be a real gem of a film and when I get my own copy, I will show this to every person I know that is willing to sit down and watch it with me, regardless if they are an angler or not.
Carl and everybody associated with the production of this film hit the ball out of the park on this one. I can’t wait to get a copy that I can watch on my wide screen. This film blew me away on my laptop.
Here is a link to an HD trailer for this film and although the trailer is great, in my opinion it doesn’t do the film justice.
I am not sure where this DVD is available for purchase, but I will be finding out ASAP.
Here’s another link that gives a brief description of the film and it’s contents.

Carl (I know you are lurking) and Jeanie-You two did a fantastic job on this film and I hope you continue to work on projects such as this. You did a great job!
Thank you for this little piece of heaven!!
Cheers, P.J.

Simon ChuMemberThe film can only be bought here, from Stu’s flyshop
http://www.stusflyshop.com/proddetail.asp?prod=dvdonandmoseflyIts a terrific film and I’m lucky enough to live where much of it was filmed. The mouse thing happens every few years and is eagerly anticipated by those who can take advantage.
Its no secret that we had a pretty decent mast year last summer and it looks like more meeces this coming season.
DOC (Department of Conservation) are planning a pretty large scale poisoning regime to keep the feral predator population down but more than a few mice will be eaten by trout.Carl, Jeannie and their team did a great job and its a true visual feast.
😎 🙂

How did Stu manage to get exclusive rights to selling that film Simon? I think I am going to have to get that one so I can take a stroll down memory lane while watching it!
Deb is still talking about the trip Simon and trying to figure out how to get back next year! I sure hope she figures it out too! 😉

Simon ChuMemberCarl lives in Wanaka, just down the road and I think Stu’s was the logical starting point.
I’ve sent you an email with some more teasers Joel.
I’ll get some NZ DVDs your way.
Is the best postal address the one on your signature?
Be good to see you next year.
We’ll go mousing, although it might be done by April? ::)May 20, 2009 at 8:58 pm #36920

Zach, it really is an amazing film. I know Carl and think he is a great guy and a blast to fish and hang around with and all, but I wouldn’t come on here and say this is the best thing since sliced bread if I didn’t believe it.

We’ll go mousing, although it might be done by April? ::)My signature address is the best this time of year Simon. I basically live at work just ask Deb. 😮
I might have to talk Deb into playing hooky from school so we can do the mouse thing…OR maybe I will have to make TWO trips next year! I like the second idea better… 😎

MemberI think this is going to be the first fly fishing film I purchase.

MemberMike L , it really is good. It’s not your normal grip and grin sort of fly fishing flick. It’s educational beyond the realm of fly fishing.
I really enjoyed this and I hope Carl is able to pull it off again with another topic.
