    Hey guys –

We’re going to have a little fun here courtesy of our new sponsor Guideline Polarized Eyegear.

I have two pairs of Guideline sunglasses here, valued at $50 each.  We’re going to give one each away to the two winners of this contest.

Guideline Pro Series Kingfisher – $50

“New for 2008, the Kingfisher frame combines function and style like never before. Amazing eye coverage and superior comfort. Go fishing and look good doing it while wearing the Kingfisher.”

    These are the copper lenses.

Guideline Pro Series Tortuga – $50

“The Tortuga proves that you don’t have to look like an old man while fishing. The Tortuga’s aggressive styling offers comfort and protection while angling. Makes a great choice for all water-related activities.”

These are also the copper lenses.

    The Rules

This contest is really easy: whoever catches and then posts a photo of the biggest fish of any species caught on the fly between now and May 31 will win.

Obviously, we’ll need to verify the catch, so you can either post an image including a measurement (scale or tape measure) OR get a trustworthy buddy to verify the story.  Obviously, a good fishing story is a plus when you submit.

“Wait a minute,” you’re saying. “Did he say biggest fish contest? What kind of fish?”

That’s the fun part!  ANY SPECIES OF FISH CAN WIN.  Whether you catch a bluegill or a Marlin, the only measurement will be HOW BIG is your fish as a PERCENTAGE against the world record for that species?

Meaning, if you catch a 5 pound bluegill, your chances of beating a 10 pound trout are excellent!

So get out there and win some sunglasses folks!

I think size of fly should count… Smaller means more points

Is this the world record all tackle or on a fly rod.

How are you going to verify the date caught?

Well, at this rate, it isn’t going to be much of a problem.

    Hi Zach
Yes, we’ve just finished our regular season and today the air has snow in it. Its time to shoot ducks and the roar has started in earnest. CDC, Deer hair flies and venison… just enough to get me through the winter 🙂
I’ll try and do a quick report for folk on the main board

Brown was on Southland river 28″ measured. 27th of April
Rainbow was on Waiau River 4 and 5/9 of an inch (estimated) 😉 25th of April

I’ve only fished for bluegills and bass once and I’d love to see some of them!

    24″ Western PA Brown…

The following 2 aren’t mine, but I was rowing the boat when they were caught by friends.

    now they’re really nice fish!
Is the chromer a steelhead or just a regular rainbow?
That small mouth must be big for its species?

Great fish and good pics, Mike.

This one is technically not eligible for the as it was caught in March in Chile. But, it’s such a great picture of my son (a guide in Chile and Missoula, MT) and the largest trout of my 30+ years fly fishing, that I can’t help but post it. It is a 6.5+ brown taken in Patagonia.

    Zach,

Thanks for the welcome. My apologies for not providing my name – I didn’t realize that it was the norm. I’ll try to fix my profile.

I am Michael Phillippe. I live in Bethlehem, PA . I’ve fly fished for trout for over 30 years. Actually I learned to fly fish in Georgia in the mid-70’s. I fish primarily on the upper Delaware River now, although I figured out a few years ago that I had fished over 75% of Trout Unlimted 100 Most Beautiful Trout Streams in America. I built a wooden drift boat a couple years ago for the big water of the Delaware.
