Joel ThompsonMemberMark just copy and paste the link into your browser and that will get you there.
Eric that is pretty cool! I am going to have to give that a try….on some old lines first!

MemberI’m a bit skeptical but I am gonna try it out.

MemberIt looks slick, would probably be good on trout lines and keep the tip floating well.

Mark SchaferMemberI tried this technique and it works great, there is a learning curve it took me about a foot of fly line to finally get a good one. I couldn’t find clear shrink tubing so I used some 1/8 inch black tubing that I had on hand. Go slow and keep the flame away from the fly line loop and it works well. I’m also a bit skeptical of the holding power and I will try against a steelhead over the weekend and let you know what happens.

The Itinerant AnglerYou know what else we need? Break strength tests.

Membermy T-14 connections are gonna be a whole lot smoother now

Mark SchaferMemberI started using a candle, having 2 hands to rotate the line helps.
Makes sense about the strength and direction of pull but some real world testing is still in order

Memberwhere does one get shrink tubing?
Mar 2, 2008 at 1:35 am #25002Carter Simcoe
MemberIn the thread he gives pretty specific instructions as to what sizes the tubing is and says to pick it up from any electrical supply place.
I wouldn’t bother with your t14 though, you’ll just wind up wasting it.

MemberAm here I am cutting the factory welded loop off of all my lines and using the zap-a-gap method…..

MemberThanks for the candle idea; the bic was not performing well. I just keep melting line, and I am having some difficulty in removing the shrink-tubing when I am done.

MemberHow about using the small burner on a gas stove.

I put some tubing in the pack of flies
Mar 4, 2008 at 7:29 pm #25009
Mark SchaferMemberBefore I started to pull the tubing off I lightly scored it with an exato knife
