I hesitate to bring this up, but for anyone interested in another article discussing distance-casting 5-wts., with (IMO) a decidedly more thoughtful analysis than some other comparisons, check this out:

That that particular site (and board) is biased toward ultra-fast-action rods. But the article seems to be written by someone not affiliated with the site.

I think it is enlightening if only to compare the distance capabilities of stiffer and slower rods (as objectively measured by CCS) as thrown by a group of casters (with subjective casting abilites). One of the softest rods compared ends up “winning” – not the longest individual cast, but the easiest rod for most of these tournament casters to throw consistently long.

The most interesting thing to me about that article is not that they conclude any particular rod is better at any particular thing, but that no rod was more than 10% off the norm in any category.

The only thing I preach is this: they all get the job done.

Interesting article, even though I didn’t feel like converting meters to feet.
