Anybody out there have an opinion on what would be a go-to fly for wild brookies? I’m assuming terrestrials such as small ants would be good. Remember, these are wary fish and very skittish, and often small, so I would think a streamer wouldn’t be at the top of the list.
In the remote Smokies the brookies are opportunists since there usually isn’t an abundance of food. No need to go deep as they will come out of holes 5 feet deep to slam a decently presented dry most times. If that don’t make you grin give up all hope!
