This is the North Gate at Yellowstone National Park – the original entrance, located in Gardiner, Montana. This arch, a now a de facto memorial to Teddy Roosevelt (as with many things memorializing Roosevelt, it was built during his lifetime), is less than a mile north of the 45th Parallel – the midway point between the North Pole and the Equator. The arch was completed in 1903, when the railroad reached Gardiner, and it is inscribed: “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People.”
