Feb 1, 2008 at 1:38 am #3011jeff s MemberI’m looking at one of these in 8′ 6″ 5wt (or a 9′ 5wt) and wondered what the general concensus here is about the rod?
 Casting ability
 Quality and materials
 warranty support
 etc.Thanks,

I eventually broke the middle section beating up on some Spanish Mackeral. Their warranty department replaced the blank no questions asked and I rebuilt the rod. Three years ago, I broke it again, this time in Montana (consumed by errant and heavy-headed woolly buggers). I completely forgot I hadn’t botthered to get the rod rebuilt (Blame 7wgt XP), so this winter I sent the broken rod back to St Croix and they unquestioning replaced it with a new SCIV 4pc 7wgt blank as the 3pc blanks had been discontinued and unavailable. Although I don’t know that I’d intentionally buy another St Croix rod, I certainly have had a very good experience with their warranty support. I just realyy like St. Croix in general….If I could afford another one to add to the collection it woud be a two weight…..do they make a two weight….LOL….Im going to check right after this post…..Btw, I also have a 9’6″ 7 wt flyrod that I use for steelhead….great rod!!! Maybe it’s just my mind playing tricks on me to get me to buy a new rod… That said, those 2 St. Croix rods are my only 2 fly rods. I like the feel and weight of them. I’ve landed a few 20″ plus fish on them in all seasons and they’ve held up pretty good. I did recently break the tip off my 5wt (not sure how, it was broke when I pulled it out of the rod case). I just put a new top guide on it and it still casts great. http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints. http://grainfarmer.vsco.co/ iPhone photos
