Aug 16, 2010 at 1:16 am #5084Adam McDowell MemberI will be in the smokies on the north side (pigeon forge side) mid september and was looking for fishing advice in the area. I am not too crazy about fishing bigger rivers necessarily as much as pocket water creeks. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Aug 16, 2010 at 1:26 am #44500anonymous MemberAdam, Have you been to the area before? Aug 16, 2010 at 1:40 am #44501Adam McDowell MemberThanks Matt, is Abrams creek worth fishing of does it get too much pressure? Take a 7 1/2 foot 3 or 4 weight and a half dozen size 16 yellow stimulators and you are set. For subsurface…..Size 14 or 16 Tellico Nymphs or Prince Nymphs will do fine. Fish them one-and-a-half times the water depth….below an indicator. The brown trout should start getting ornery at that time. Try the bigger water at sunrise or sunset with streamers. Have fun. The upper elevations are fun, the bite lasts longer during the day, but that they take more work to get there. BTW, the hole where my avatar picture (my daughter and me) was made is on the Middle Fork. Aug 17, 2010 at 1:58 am #44506jeff s MemberFrom Piegon Forge, the greenbriar area is also good. Aug 17, 2010 at 1:37 pm #44507Zach Matthews The Itinerant AnglerSeptember is just a bit early but if you’re going to be there in the later part of the month it’ll be worth your while to check the Little River around Metcalf Bottoms for pre-spawn staging brown trout. Aug 17, 2010 at 3:11 pm #44508marc p. MemberZach is spot on about Metcalf. Aug 20, 2010 at 1:26 pm #44509Adam McDowell MemberThanks guys, this is more than enough to get me going. I will have to get in touch with LRO Aug 29, 2010 at 9:48 pm #44510 Chad SimcoxMember Chad SimcoxMemberElkmont + Caddis & BHPT = a good time Another +1 on LRO, great shop. I have a 7’6″ 4wt that I bought for those streams but learned I liked a 9′ much better up there. If you’ve got the rooms and the rods, take ’em both. I came up with a fly I called the Prince Telle to use up there. I combined a prince nymph with a Tellico nymph. It did great. Just tie up a prince nymph, but used yellow floss and an ostrich herl ribbed boddy instead of just the ostrich body. I put a lot of lead wrap on mine to get em down deep quickly in the pocket water. http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints. http://grainfarmer.vsco.co/ iPhone photos
