Nikon’s 35mm F1.8 DX lens is a fantastic lens on a crop body, I have one on my D7000 and it is a sweet setup. For the $150 I paid for a used copy in mint condition it is pretty hard to argue with! The design was a DX takeoff on the VERY expensive 35mm F1.4 FX lens.

Nikon is following this design idea by creating a DX F1.8 version of their 85mm F1.4 FX lens. It was recently announced and will be available in the spring apparently for a reasonable $499 starting price, which could drop some after the first few months. This lens should be awesome for depth of field control. Time to start saving…might even sell my 60mm F2.8 macro to fund this lens.

    Cheers -Loren

Also Nikon Rumors has word of the same deal happening with the FX 24mm F1.4, as apparently a DX 24mm F1.8 is in testing. That would be a sweet lens to have along on fishing trips as well!

Got the 35 1.8 now and i love it. I was looking for an older 85 but i think i might just wait for the new one with a price like that.

Next it looks like we will get an 28mm F1.8! Love the 35, but a 28, 50, 85 set at F1.8 would be sweet. Nikon rumors tends to be pretty reliable with this stuff…later 2012 they say.
