MemberHey everyone – hope you all are well and prepped for the upcoming spring season!
I’ve been laboring for the past month on getting my site completely overhauled. My primary goal is to display my best images when the first page is loaded. My intentions for the site change are to cater to the art directors, editors, and commercial folks in the world.
My goal this year is to focus on marketing myself outside of the fly fishing industry, hence the reason I have not labeled any of my portfolios with subjects related to fly fishing.
Anyways – I’d love to hear all feedback. Load time, structure, appearance, colors, and most of all BROWSER ISSUES! I’d specifically love to hear from some of you guys that have done a bit of commercial work.
If you guys wouldn’t mind clicking around I would really appreciate it. http://theflyphoto.com
Thanks so much!

MemberMatt,
Nice shots. The only issue I have and am using IE9 is the nav bar on the top. Your last button on right is covered almost completely with the social networking links. I might push the social buttons to the far right but I did not look at the coding to see what you had intended either.Mar 12, 2012 at 12:05 am #73197Tim Angeli

MemberTim – the social links are absolutely positioned to sit to the right of my sub-nav. I’m guessing IE9 is rendering the positioning a bit off. If you have a screen shot I would love to take a look.
THanks!

MemberVery nice site Matt; clean and simple. It has that ascetic feel of perfect harmony, which, like clothing attire, makes one notice the entire ensemble vs the details.
My only nit is the choice of green and teal for the wording. Personally I love the colors because they are fly fishing oriented and really remind me of the ocean. However, I have internet designers recommend avoiding green because of the issue with red-green color blindness. Try and find someone with rgcb and ask how the wording looks to them and if it pops or not.
Strong work!
Note: I only viewed the webpage briefly and did not click on each link to see if they worked properly, etc.
You really are an inspiration to me. Watching you progress has been a fantastic journey. I consider your work some of the best in the industry!

MemberHi Matt, site looks great!
Looking at it on my ipad now on a somewhat poor connection and it took a long time too load, when fully loaded it’s very fast because it loads everything in one time. If possible i would try to cut that in pieces so a visitor gets something on screen sooner. I also noticed i could not view single images, is that a choice or does that come with the template?

MemberLooks great, I like the navigation of the portfolios. The scrubability is nice and very user friendly. I hate having to click a lot on websites, so not having to click to go to the next photo is great. It would be nice if the keyboard arrows would scrub quicker. I prefer having the photos separated a little from each other. It seems to help make each photo stand out from the others. It’s doubtful that you would arrange a printed portfolio book in this manner, so I would emulate the formatting of a print book a little more. This also allows you to arrange diptychs if you ever present that way.

MemberCongrats on the Fly Fish Journal cover too, Matt!

MemberThanks everyone.
Chad – I have been debating on separating the images and to be honest I had a 10px separation at first. I’m definitely considering going back to that, I just want to finish making all the final touches.
Neal – Your compliments as usual are very much appreciated. I will try and figure out what to do about the color of the fonts, that’s something I never considered (color blindness).
Tim – Thanks! I finally got a cover and am stoked!!

MemberThe site is really well done Matt. Congrats on the cover as well. I just redid mine with a WP host and template. Pretty cool content management available if you take the time to figure it out. Cheers!

MemberMatt,
The site is super sick. I bet building the site probably took up a fair amount of you time. Well done. The feedback chain has been good and I have nothing to add.
Except, that your work, images and efforts are inspiring. Keep it going.Mar 14, 2012 at 7:02 am #73213Mike McKeown
