My previous drift boat (Alumaweld) was destroyed when a drunk chick hit it at 65mph while it was parked on the side of the road. After having met the lads from Stealthcraft at the Somerset show in the years past I could not resist the chance to get one of their boats.
I was undecided until ‘PK’ posted a bunch of short vids on Instagram of his ATB. I called up Mike the owner and began the process of custom building a new boat for fly fishing around Washington DC and hopefully a move out to the Front Range of Colorado.
We spoke on the phone several times and e-mailed a lot. I used up all of my insurance money and spent several thousand out of pocket much to the disappointment of the wife. The plan was to have a snakehead print on the side but Mike needed to build the boat in March and we didn’t have a skin done in time. He said he had a Derek DeYoung print he could put on !!!!!
My boat has the following features:
-10 cup holders
-2 casting pulpets
-2 modular chairs that can go in where the puplets are
-casting platform
-interior LED lights
-exterior head lights
-nav lights for night
-cigarette lighter for charging phones etc and for spotlight for night
-anchor pulley system
-loads of storage
-loads of room (i plan to sleep in the boat while others fish the snakehead tourney in 2 weeks
– 3 rod holders for 9′ rods
-2 rod holders for 2-handed rods
-tie downs inside for oars when not in use
This is the most well thought out boat I have ever rowed or fished from. It is super light weight. The trailer is just as well thought out and so is the cover. I already had one person at an intersection lower his glasses to get a good stare at the boat. My boat might as well have been wearing yoga pants.
I have only taken the boat out on stillwater but hope to put it on the river this weekend to see how it works with the outboard.
