I had a hell of a time putting my Pentax in the water the first time ;). Too many years of conditioning against such things I guess. Darrin PS – Cool blog, Loved the entry on your girls first fish. 🙂 Too cool. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Feb 28, 2008 at 4:58 am #23527christine Memberthanks a million darrin! cool, I really appreciate your comments so funny you mention that about your pentax. yesterday my friend stumbled and went completely down for the count. totally soaked. and unfortunately ruined his pentax (non waterproof version!) and he leaves for a 21 day float trip on the grand canyon tomorrow. yikes. think he’s in the market for waterproof now. I lent him mine for his trip and you’re totally spot on. I could not wrap my mind around the fact that you could put it UNDER water. I got the camera thinking it would be good on a boat. little splashing here/there. but you can actually submerge it. kinda crazy. then I had that weird oppty to hover over that fish so I really had to go for it. in the sunlight I couldn’t see the picture in the display. so it was kinda funny to get off the river and discover that I actually got some pics of the fish!! Being the generous sort, I bought my bride the Oly Sty 790 for Christmas with no ulterior motive in mind… kind of! Feb 28, 2008 at 2:04 pm #23529Zach Matthews The Itinerant AnglerThat is a funny picture and a funny caption, Christine. Feb 28, 2008 at 2:52 pm #23530Neal Osborn MemberChristine, you will love the underwater camera. Feb 28, 2008 at 3:28 pm #23531stiles MemberI got the same camera a month or so ago. Did you use the underwater setting or just leave it in auto?
Cheers, PeteFeb 28, 2008 at 3:38 pm #23532christine Memberthere’s an underwater setting? hey Pete! uuuuum. no I did not use the underwater setting. I haven’t exactly read through the manual yet. am just getting started with this camera and had some fun on the river the other day with it. now I’m ready to read about the features and see what I can do with it. when/if it comes back from the grand canyon…I lent it to my buddy who lost his in the river the other day (thx again for the passes btw, we had a ball) neal — your pics are AWESOME. Pete, I should redirect all Qs about this camera to Neal. his scuba diving pictures are inspiring. am going to take the camera to the bahamas in april and hopefully will have more cool pics to share zach — thx for the link to the video. very cool, I’m definitly going to order one. my daughter was so intrigued with the underwater trout pic. she said it helps understand what she’s doing when she’s casting…can’t beat that for an extra dose of education! Feb 28, 2008 at 5:09 pm #23534mike j MemberI had a pretty bad exp with the little waterproof and crush proof O’s… First one developed bad pixels on the sensor after about 2 days… Second one made it 3 months.. and then filled with water (in 3ft of water)…. I think the WP housing for the G9 will be my Feb 28, 2008 at 6:23 pm #23535 Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberI got the 790… bn LOV’IN it… just clip it on my belt and go, dont worry about falling, swimming, etc… but it take great pics, and the best thing is just whipping it out and shooting… Feb 29, 2008 at 4:54 pm #23536stiles Memberthere’s an underwater setting? hey Pete! uuuuum. no I did not use the underwater setting. Just put it in “scene” mode and flip through until you find it. I think there are a couple of underwater options. I assume its a bullshit feature, but, hey, you never know… Feb 29, 2008 at 5:36 pm #23537jeff s MemberI have the 790SW and like it very much. Feb 29, 2008 at 5:55 pm #23538christine MemberJS – thanks so much! the blog is fun to do, but also nice to know people are out there enjoying it and thanks for all the good commentary on the underwater camera. This discussion thread is proving more useful than reading the manual
