I’m currently on a business trip to Maryland.

Frank Burt Smoot — renowned fishing artist, fly angler, writer, conservationist, teacher, and humorist.  Died a few years ago at age 99.

I became curious about the careful lettering.

I met some great older gentlemen a couple weeks back at an event and we starting talking about Frank Smoot.

BHC as it is known here is a real gem.

It has a lot of history, being near camp david and so close to d.c.

The stream can be fished year round. It is a great tail water with all sorts of water from plunge pools, riffles, runs, bends, bouldery pocket water, and man made obstructions like logs and falls. The browns have not been stocked since 40 years ago or something. All natural reproduction.

Did you get to see the Joe Brooks memorial?
Glad you got to see one of our local spots.

I too have been humbled plenty of times on the BHC.

Only the ‘bows and brookies are stocked. True about finicky browns, I’ve rarely caught one bigger than palm sized. Most likely due to them being ‘native’ now and a bit more educated. I want to say Lefty had something to do with that but I’m not sure.

As for the lake, we found a HUGE dead largemouth in the stream that must have come from the lake. It looked like a florida largemouth. Find one of those in the lake and it’ll be good fun.

The streams feeding the lake all have native brookies in them. That is a good alternative when the tailwater is crowded.
