Just saw on the news about the coal slurry spill. They said it dumped into the Clinch, just wondering if anyone is hearing anything on how bad this will affect the watershed.

About the only positive is that it’s a couple dozen miles downstream of the lower trout line.

What I do know is that the TVA has been dumping mass quantities of water downstream at present – 2 generators continuously on the Norris dam, which is unusual for this time of year.  Rumor has it they’re trying to clear out as much of the crap downstream as possible before the EPA gets here en masse.

TVA began releasing a lot of water before the accident, when all the recent rain raised the lake levels above TVA’s operating flood guide for this time of year. Rumors are notoriously wrong.

Would this pollution have any effect on the Oak Ridge Nuclear Lab steam intakes in Melton Hill Reservoir do you think?

    I stand corrected.

NPR had a great piece about the spill last week on morning edition or was it science friday? I forget.

Either way it sucks and I hope it gets remedatiated. TVA should pay for all personal property damage and enviromnental.

The issue in question is well below the trout water (south of the 61 bridge).
