Okay…here’s the deal.  I need to know what does or doesn’t work on the Caney.  I will be fishing it for the first time next week and want to make it memorable (in the excellent fishing sense, not the trip to the hospital sense).  I know that this time of year midges can be productive but would like to know what to tie and what to leave in the man cave.

any tips told via P.M. will be held in confidence………….

Should you not be practicing your mandolin chops? 😉

Mandolin chops are up, guitar licks are up, I’ve tied every form of midge known to man, got every tailwater worthy bamboo tuned up, and am ready to head west.

The fishing has slowed as usual this time of year. I assume the DO is low on the release water at the dam and fishing has been tough at times after the pulse. Fish early!

    Flies to bring would be
    Black and copper zebra, 16-22
Black and silver zebra same as above.
    Black fly larva and adult
WD40 and RS2 olive and grey.
    Lots-o-midges in various colors.

Are people still using the “Cheater Fly” on the Caney? Check out Cumberland Transit’s board I’m sure they can help you out too.

I always did well on Eat At Chuck’s soft hackles, guacamole stick bugs, Adams Irresistible, humpies, BHPT (14-18), BHHE (14-16).

I’ve done well with brown and copper zebra midges on other tailwaters. It will imitate both small mayflie nymphs and midges.

    Wet,
The Caney Fork is the name of a river in Tennessee, just outside of Nashville.
