Oct 29, 2013 at 4:03 pm #75606Zach Matthews The Itinerant AnglerGuys – Man, am I excited. Our Georgia regs are such a mess to get through that it took me 7 years of living here to realize that I am allowed to not only put out live birds in the dog training areas of our WMAs, but actually to *shoot* them. In other words, I can conduct my own planted hunt, which is fantastic. Gretchen is 16 months old now and should be ready to rock and roll. She has shown all kinds of natural pointing and retrieving tendencies. I am very excited. It looks like the closest WMA to me with a dog training area is the JL Lester WMA in Polk County. Allatoona WMA’s dog training section was removed, likely because the road in washed out. Does anyone have any advice on where I can get live quail in NW Georgia? I had a guy up in Buford, which is kind of the wrong direction. I don’t mind the driving but I am not sure I could keep the birds alive if I had to spread the purchase and the hunt out over multiple days. Ranburne is the first I-20 exit across the state line….I’m guessing 20 to 30 minutes from the I-20 / I-285 interchange. There is also a quail hunting plantation near there where he takes his dog. From what he said….its pretty cheap…..not much more than a round of golf. The quail are planted but flight-trained. I’ll try to get the info. Oct 31, 2013 at 4:18 pm #75627Grant Wright MemberQuail Valley Farms, Inc — They’ve been raising birds since the 60’s and provide a tone of strong flying birds to field trialers and trainers. They have a place in Warwick, GA and Doles, GA (not sure where you are in relation to their location)
Phone: 229.535.6320 or email quailvalley.sr@gmail.comThey key on pen raised birds is to find strong flying birds your dog cannot catch and develop bad habits on. Good luck! Zach Aug 11, 2014 at 9:11 am #88012 ed baggettMember ed baggettMemberZach, I know this is a thread is a little old, but I found a place in Tunnel Hill, GA., Triple S Quail that has birds. They will not have any ready until Nov. Another in Gainesville, Ga. Sudden Flush. I live in Kennesaw, and have been looking for places to buy birds and train my dog as well since they closed the Allatoona location. It was easy access via boat from Galts Ferry.. For now, it’s Pigeons.. When I head up to either of these locations I can let you know if you still live in the Marietta area.
