I have a question regarding Canon’s 1 year USA warranty that comes with their camera bodies.  On the warranty card, it says that a reciept is required as well as the card for service.  What if you don’t have the reciept?  I.e  what if you buy it new, unopened from a “safe” ebay seller with a blank warranty card?

Secondly, the warranty is only good for 1 year anyway.  Is it really that big of a deal, or just a selling gimmick to make the consumer feel better?  I know it could be a gamble.  Could be some fluke thing like a stuck pixel or something even on a brand new camera.

My present camera body was purchased on ebay, from a previous photog owner, way out of warranty, and it has been awesome.  No problems whatsoever.  But, upgrading is a significant amount of money.  I could save about $250 on ebay by going this route again.

Just thinking out loud here…  It really comes down to the money vs. the warranty, and would they still honor it without the reciept.

With Nikon… blank warranty card or not you still need to enclose a receipt showing you purchased it from an authorized Nikon dealer when you send it in or the warranty you mailed off is considered void.  Some ebayers selling cameras w/ warranty cards are authorized dealers and others aren’t.

That’s what I was afraid of.
