So after years of using NikonCapture through Nikon CaptureNX2 for post processing and ViewNX for image browsing / tagging, I have given up all hopes that Nikon will keep the software up to date and release Capture NX3 or some flavor of it.

I followed this guys advice and I’ve not had any data issues to date. There are some other great tutorials on this site as well.

Do this before you do anything.

Suggest you might want to start here.

As has been suggested, a lot of you-tube stuff is also available.  The key is the catalog. Get it set up correctly and you are good to go, improper set up can make management a PITA.  I typically download to HD, then import into LR, process, then tweak in PS if needed.  I really like the program, figuring out all that it is capable of doing is a big challenge, but interesting one.

Also, this course may be of interest, coming to MO next week!

    Time, Time, Time.

My workflow from LR4 to CS6 has been worked over and changes all the time.

So the transition to Lighroom hasn’t been as painful as I thought it would.

    Matt,

It largely depends on the file format the respective client or editor is requesting.

    For a non-pro is LR4 worth upgrading from LR3.6?

    #73589

Tough decision John.  I would say it really depends on your workflow and the ability to use the new feature set in LR4+

Personally, I feel the upgrade is definitely worth it.  Some things I like in LR4 would be the new sliders in the “Basic Control Panel”. I can be more selective in my photo effects.

I have not played with the video stuff much.  I do love the softproofing feature which has been warranted for a long time.  The Print area has been updated and while it is not a need, I do love the flexability of the new print options in LR4

I have noticed a big difference in shadow and contrast control in my images.  They simply look better and cleaner in my final export.

If you geo-tag your images, you will probably dig the workflow of this in LR4.

All-in-All the image rendering, soft proofing capability for me prior to print or final export to web and the new slider bars is worth the upgrade.  I have used the book print feature only a few times but it is handy.

Oh 1 more thing that is much much better is the “Sharpening” in the LR4.

I just added Lightroom 4 to my MacBook yesterday, so I am no expert, but am signed up for the class Tim suggested above and was advised by an experienced photog that the Lightroom 4 Crash Course on DVD is a good place to start.
