2 handed and Spey Casting Instruction in NY

Hello does anyone have an revommendaions for a certified casting instructor with an emphasis on 2 handed and various spey cadt techniques? I reside in the Upstate NY area so someone in the Syracuse, Rochester NY area would be ideal. Thanks

Hi Mike,
I have a good buddy who guides in the Pulaski/Altmar area during this time of year. He is a former steelhead guide from Oregon who switched coasts and now guides stripers and blues in Mass. and then steelhead and salmon in NY. He definitely offers casting instruction with a 2 hander and guides spey trips on the Salmon and Oswego Rivers. I don’t know if he is a certified instructor, but he is a licensed guide in NY, a licensed Captain in Mass. and an Orvis certified guide. I took a group class with Travis Johnson (Oregon guide) at Spey Nation on the Salmon River several years ago. Would highly recommend it for others seeking spey instruction. At the time I was very new to spey and had taken an hour lesson here an there but just wasn’t getting the hang of it. Travis’s class was an all day seminar which started with the basics of roll casting and feeling the rod load then moving on to various casts on both sides of the river. By the end of the day I wasn’t a great caster but left with a strong enough foundation where I could now go out and fish a river effectively on my own and build upon what I’d learn.
