The Itinerant AnglerGuys –
After maybe a decade of lusting, I have finally pulled the trigger on a driftboat. ClackaCraft was great to deal with and is putting together a slick Headhunter II package for me in stealth black with a tan interior. Should be here around May. Looks like I need to stock up on stickers…

MemberCongratulations. I have the original Headhunter and love it. Last Sunday I took her out for the first time this year. The temperature started out in the single digits. I’ve never enjoyed picking ice out of my guides so much! My first float of 2015.

The Itinerant Angler

Walt, it’s been great. We’ve had a lot of dirty water this summer, probably due to the increase in construction in the Atlanta area, but nevertheless we’ve had an awesome time in the boat. So far we’ve only boated a handful of small stripers and a gar, but we’re starting to figure out some of the differences in this kind of angling. If we get into a multi-day low water period without generation from Buford Dam in August, I might just have to take a couple days off work and really put it through its paces. That’s what it’s going to take to get to the clarity levels of the heyday years of 2011 and 2012, I think.

Teaching this one to row has been fun.And to cast.
Andrew isn’t exactly in need of instruction…
Also looking forward to floating this winter for some SNITs. They’ll make for a nice low country boil. I hear you can put them in a cheesecloth bag and I’m looking forward to trying it. Might as well eat some striper bait myself…

walt smithMemberVery nice. Are you going to row the HI, Toccoa, etc? I am curious because I sold my stealthcraft and I am in the process of ordering another one with a different bottom and trailer, but I am also exploring other options….

The Itinerant AnglerWalt that’s the plan, although I need to work out access to both. Right now the question is, what does the standing wave on the lower Hooch look like?

That guy is kind of a nit wit but there’s no doubting the jet boat skill. I am pretty sure I can run that wave but I’m just a bit concerned about it. What do you guys think?

Steve K.MemberIt’s just a matter of time before jet boat dude rips off a sponson or crushes his transom as a result of going thru rapids backwards. 🙂
I missed the part where he says, “hold my beer”.
If I were to run it in a driftboat….I’d paddle over to the gravel bar and let my passengers out with their gear. I’d run it a alone and pick them up below the rapid in the back eddy. This accomplishes two things:
1. It assures the safety of your passengers and gear should you capsize….
2. The boat is much lighter and more maneuverable with less weight.
In the future, as you build confidence….they can stay onboard for the ride.
