So as I think I mentioned I am between jobs right now. (Literally, ha! I start at a new firm on August 11). So I am dedicating this week to getting projects done and fishing in between.

I have been promising Clay Smith, who is a member here, that I would meet him and take him fishing for over a year. Clay is the most knowledgeable baseball fan I know; we met when we had season tickets next to each other at Turner Field.

He’s also an athlete from way back when, and it showed. It’s always a pleasure to teach people who have a lot of natural talent. Clay had his first lesson at 9:45 and was smoking forty foot casts and getting strikes, on his own, by 10:15.

We didn’t tear it up–the Flint was running muddy–but I think Clay is hooked.

Those of you who know Zach personally will understand how kind he is being to me in his description. That combined with his awesome direction created a fun filled day.

No hookups today; but watching them try to crash the hopper as I artfully pulled it out of their mouth was an absolute blast!

Also very glad I could be here for the kickoff of Zach’s week of actually fishing.

My week of actually fishing continues! Today I continued to spend half my day performing home maintenance (painted the stair railings and they look mighty fine–the risers and treads are getting replaced).

Then I dropped in to the Hooch for a little striper chasing. This year has been TERRIBLE for reasons unknown, but I finally landed a striper on fly (I’ve lost two more this year. Seriously, it’s been terrible). Later Jay joined me for some action a little further up. Unfortunately our old friend the turbidity levels spiked for completely unknown reasons, and I missed only one more strike.

Way to get out Zach…nice striper.
You’ve definitely earned some free time. I hope the new career change leads to bigger and better things, and hopefully some more fishing time.
Did you get my PM about the Boardworks Paddles?

Travis I am not sure I did. I’ll go back and check.

My week of actually fishing was delayed while I did this:

However, after getting that out of the way on Thursday, Mike Tolbert and I set out to do some fishing on the Toccoa… unfortunately the generation schedule was not favorable. So instead we went blue lining.

As you can see even in the highest mountains the rain has colored up the creeks. This is the second wettest year I have experienced in Georgia, after last year.

We took turns on this rock. This was right after a seriously scary storm came through and a lightning bolt struck a tree on top of the hill to the right in this photo. I wasn’t grounded but Mike was leaning on a granite boulder in the slot canyon down below in this shot, and he felt a jolt through his arm. We high tailed it up to a little overhang.

Mike I am looking forward to seeing the video when you get a chance.

    Pretty awesome week guys.

    Zach,

Here’s the video. I started a new thread b/c I didn’t see this post first. I had a great time!

Great video Mike; that was really fun. I need to get a Go Pro. They should make a steadicam mount for it.
