I was in the Viera wetlands when I came across this guy.  He missed the first fish he tried for but had better luck on the second.

Pretty cool to see.  How close were you?  I would get nervous unless I was on a boat.  Awesome photo opp!

I was about 80 feet away.  A 500mm lens makes it look close but even at that distance the take was impressive.

Here are a couple more shots of big toothy lizards for offering, seems like the right post to offer them in.
We took a fishing adventure to the Amazon and ran into this species, the Cayman, patrolling our dock, seems the handouts were pretty good there from the various fishing parties coming in and out of camp.
That fish in his mouth is a Peacock Bass in excess of 15lbs. that we brought back after the Piranha got a hold of it. That beast was big, over a half ton and 14′ long. Later in the week two others showed up bigger than him.
The jealous threesome got into a brawl one evening and destroyed the bridge (2nd pic) leading from the walkway to the dock.
Fascinating place the Amazon river basin.
Cool thread for spooky critters Roy. 🙂
