The biggest fish I have ever caught on a fly rod was in the Salmon River in and around Pulaski, New York. Lake run steelhead, over 30 inches, browns over 25″ and king salmon (?)” . Quite a rush.
Biggest trout I nearly caught was streamer fishing with double bunnies in the Blackfoot River out side Missoula, MT. Rainbows clearly over 24″ chasing those streamers on a chuck and duck basis.
Biggest trout I have caught on a regular basis were 20 to 22″ rainbows and cutthrouts on the Bitterroot and Clark’s Fork Rivers in and around Missoula with guide Chris Dix out of Lolo, through the Kingfisher Fly Shop in Missoula.
Next biggest consistently caught trout were on the Little Juniata River in central PA, all at 20 ” or slightly under.
Biggest wild brook trout on the smallest mountain stream were two dozen 10″ wonders of nature caught by my buddy Norm and I somewhere in New Hampshire. (Don’t ask, I’d have to shoot you.)
Biggest wild brook trout in a big river was 15 1/2″ brookie caught on a tributary of the Allagash River in Northern Maine. Here’s a smaller relative from somewhere else in NH
Should I start packing?
