MemberPretty solid! I do wish it did 1080p 60fps. Looking forward to seeing the iso range. Now if I could just come up with the 7k! 😉

John BennettMemberIm pretty intrigued by it. May jump at one, may not. Will wait until this time next year and give it 6 months-1 year in peoples hands. There is a lot to like about it.The bummer is I was thinking about a 5Dmkii in the next 1-3 months. So that is now on hold indefinately.
No idea what Canons 1 to 3 year plan is ( all kinds of pure spec abounds). But there is going to be a huge gap now both in price and specs between the prosumer 7D and 5D and the Proline 1Dx.
“If” this truly is the end of the 1D and 1Ds bodies theres no way and no price (well almost no price) that would see me sell my MKiv

Normal ISO range to 52K and then hi1 and hi2 to 200K.
JB, it will not be released before April 2012 and then I suspect the Cannon Pros will get 1st bodies. Â Average guy may not be able to hold one before a year from now.

John BennettMemberI had a mkiv within days of it being released in Cda without pre ordering. So once it’s “released” it will be available. I expect I can probably put my hands on one in May, providing that is of coarse when it ships.
However your right. My guess is it won’t be widely distributed until June next year. First shipments will go to the press and sports shooters for the Olympics. It was the same with the mkiv with the winter Os in Vancouver. Once that’s covered they will start filtering out to retialers.
For myself, I dont know if I’ll jump.
I certainly wont be at the front of the lineOct 19, 2011 at 8:11 pm #72837Douglas Barnes

Ditto on the 18080p 60fps video specs. The thing that surprised me more was the 18mp resolution. Seems like Canon would have gone at least 20 megapixel on this one. On the Nikon front, the D800 is supposed to be announced soon. It will be interesting to see how it compares. If it’s over 20mp with decent speed and has more video options, I’m down.

The D800 is not the top pro model in the Nikon line so I am not so sure that will be the comparison that the pros will be looking at. Â When Nikon releases the D3s successor I will be surprised if it is more than 18MP.
Regarding the D4 being around  the corner, with all of the issues Nikon has been dealing with in Japan I suspect that March/April 2012 will be close to a release date. If accurate, Nikon may keep its cards close to their chest until Feb 2012 before they announce.

John BennettMemberKind of pleased they didnt go more than 18mp. I’m sure in some small cases 18+ is nice to have but really “nesseary”?? not in my world. For too long all the manufactorers were caught up in the MP race. Its really refreshing imo to finally see one that is focusing on improving other features rather than dangling the to megapixel carrot.
Again at this time its far to early to bank on either improvements or “revolutionary” ground breaking changes “but”.
Theres a fair amount of both “new” and “improved” on features. From menu and settings controls (even simply moving to duo CF slots vs split CF/SD)..To larger photsites, 3 processors, the ability to effectively do hdr in camera with upto 9 composites.
ghetto increased dynamic range.
(im interested is seeing just how this plays out and output files between the revamped metering with dedicated processor). And much, much more (incuding “revolutionary” AF tracking…remains to be seen).
So rather than figuring out how to cram more MP and yet maintain performance…Just making it FF, 18MP and 12FPS requires alot…………Its nice to see one of the majors not bother and focus on improving in other area’s
