Mike Boward and I have been discussing for the past couple weeks the attributes of the Pelican Case and I know that a few on the forum use them.

Hey Cameron, the previous thread about waterproof camera bags includes some discussion about Pelican cases.

I use the 1450 with the padded divider setup:

It has been ideal for boat use and travel.

Brett…I know Corey has a Pelican Case with the divider set instead of the foam and I’m really digging that over the pull out foam.

I realize that this may be larger than what you are looking for but I, personally, love the 1600 and the 1620NF (has wheels).

One thing that I might suggest is, look at the future use and additional equipment that you may acquire. I normally take a very good while before making purchases, as I try to incorporate the future use of the product and the ROI that I may get from it. IMO, purchasing for present requirements may cost more in the long run, through a forced upgrade and/or need. Also, I love the foam padding, it absorbs far more of the shock and holds all of my equipment firmly in place. This is one of my lighting cases, with only speedlights and all of the essential gear that I would need, with this particular case of lights. The case has been used a lot and this is the condition after about 2 years of regular use. Love these Pelican cases!!!

    Cameron,

About the only thing I can suggest is that you locate the nearest camera shop stocking several sizes of Pelican and heading there to try them out.

Cameron, I rock the 1450 in desert tan (stays cooler than black) and carry a Tokina 12-24, 70-300, 50mm, 18-70 and my D80, spare battery, remote, and a few SD cards.

It’s all I need for now.

    Hi Cameron,

You could also look at the Nanuk cases, witch are even better than the peli cases. At least thats my humble opinion!

    Hey Cam,

Make sure you check your local craigslist and search for “Pelican”. I’ve purchased two of my three Pelicans off of craigslist at substantial savings….typically half price depending on the condition of the foam.

Maarten…thank you for your suggestion on the Nanuk cases.
