MemberLooking at picking up a 5D2 but I’m wondering if a 3 might be just around the corner? Anyone heard anything?

MemberI’d be surprised to see one before next year.

MemberThey seem to be on a 3 year cycle. I would like to get a 7D for a song when they upgrade it but im afraid that they will not be doing that for 1-1/2 to 2 years unless Nikon forces them to. The D300s isn’t that old though.
Im suprised to hear that you would consider leaving the 1D AF system for a 5D mkII.

MemberYea I had second thoughts. Not going for the 5D2. I’ve settled on another body… Will be selling the 50D and the 1DM2 really soon.

MemberWOW, I am not sure how you can make a decision, 2 days ago you said the 5dll was the best, and now its outdated junk just around the corner from replacement
Dec 3, 2010 at 8:33 pm #71653Mike Anderson
MemberWhat? I’m not implying the 5d is Junk at all I just like to sure a new model isn’t about to be released before I buy a camera. There are plenty of rumors all over the net about it being replaced this year but looks like mostly just rumors.
I still think that for the $ the 5d2 is the best deal out there for a canon.Dec 4, 2010 at 3:59 am #71654kurt budliger
MemberHonestly, if you’re not interested in shooting video the best deal out there for canon is a used 5d.

MemberI’m considering a used 5dC and and 1DM3 or just a 1DM4. I just don’t think the 5d series alone is going to satisfy me for wildlife stuff and I enjoy shooting that more then anything. Lately I’ve started playing with studio lighting and so forth hence the 5D interest.

The expeditiations over here in the Nikon camp is for Nikon to replace both the D300s and the D700 between April and September next year.

MemberMike, I’d skip the 1D3 (I had 2 of them fairly early on before I jumped ship) and go right for the 1D4.
Dec 4, 2010 at 4:21 pm #71658Mike Anderson
MemberYea that is the only camera that can do it all and wouldn’t need upgrading for very long time. I’m pretty much sold I just want to sleep on it for a few days.

Member…and at 16 mp I can’t imagine you’d need more.
wasn’t it Bill Gates that said no computer would ever need more than 16kb of RAM? And some dead Roman once supposedly said that everything there was to know about the world was already known (apart from the effects of lead poisoning apparently)
🙂

MemberI guess if clean images at crazy high ISO and 10fps is your thing then this camera is alright.

I did play with the Movie mode some. Wow.I have been drooling over the 7D for similar reasons. Its just hard for me to sink money into technology right now while I’m boatless.

MemberA few shot at 800.

On January 2nd, 1863 at 3:00 P.M.
there were stationed on this hill
fifty-eight cannon commanding the field
across the river, and as the Confederates
advanced over this field, the shot and shell
from these guns resulted in a loss of
eighteen-hundred killed and wounded
in less than an hour.

“A single rifled gun stands to the south of the parking lot, roughly where the Chicago Board of Trade Battery stood during the January 2 fighting. The gun is a James Rifle using the profile of the Model 1841 6-pdr Field Gun, identified by historians as a “Type 1.” The gun was produced for the State of Connecticut in 1861 by Ames Manufacturing of Massachusetts.”

Union soldiers retreated across this field on January 2, 1863, pursued by Confederate troops under Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge. The Southerners were stopped by Mendenhall’s Artillery posted at this position.

Chad SimcoxMemberI remember someone telling me that carp fishing is really good at Walter Hill dam in the spring.
The lack of noise is really impressive at those ISOs. I remember when I first started shooting digital I was impressed at how 800+ ISO had so little grain compared to films at that speed that I was blown away. It’s amazing how far the technology has come.
