I jumped the Nikon ship. They’ve priced this poor small town newsman out of even their entry lineup. I had been shooting a D100 for about six years and had enough. After much research, I decided the bucks-on-hand could best be spent on the Pentax K-x. I was frightened. I hadn’t used a Pentax or heard much about them since my cub reporter days, with a K1000.
    Well.
    Can’t say I’m disappointed.
These are from a news piece I did today, processed for newspaper reproduction with some excessive lightening and sharpening in Elements 9.
I’m no fine art photog, mostly photojournalism. The ISO performance of this little guy is outstanding, and compared to that big dang D100 with the battery grip, much easier to handle. These were with the 18-55 kit lens, in RAW.

    Thanks for the replies!
I kinda expect nothing but cricket sounds… 🙂
It all started when I wanted to downsize physically, and upsize in pixels. I strongly considered the Canon g11, decided I couldn’t get the focal length I need; then the Panasonic Lumix G2 but again, too expensive for my wallet. I kept reading positive review after review of the K-x and took the plunge.
Also got the DA 55-300. Sharp lens, for its category. I do intend to get into some faster glass as time goes by.
Taking it on a short hike through the Bayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge this morning.
