MemberI hope Video fits in this section as well?
I have an older Mac G4 Powerbook (last model before the intel chip) which doesn’t run iMovie08 (the version of iLife I’m running). I’m playing around with a Sanyo Xacti waterproof video camera and it comes with PC software ::)
Anyone know of software that would suit?

MemberYou could look into an older version of Imovie or even Final Cut… I don’t know what else you could use with that system. Video editing takes a lot of computer to do well. Especially if you’re working with HD.

MemberIt’s really tough to edit video on a G4. Even the early iLife applications were demanding of the pre-Intel processors. Basically, any of the standard editing software will chew up a G4 in a flash, that’s if they even install on the computer at all.

MemberThanks guys, looks like I’ll need to keep that in mind when I update the family PC in the next few months.

MemberSorry to dredge up an oldie however I now have a better laptop albeit a couple of years old MacBook Pro 2.4GHz is iMovie as good as you need or is there a better “cheapish” software I’d be better using?

MemberA MBP 2.4ghz will handle most any editing software. iMovie will be a good software in general and should be all you need to do general editing like for YouTube, Family Trips, Tutorials, or even some modest advanced stuff. The key will be to increase your RAM as much as possible (minimum of 2gb but 4-8gb is much more desirable).
My backup Mac is a MBP 2.4ghz with only 2gb RAM (basically same computer as yours) and it runs iMovie fine but is slow as molasses when it comes to rendering.

MemberThanks Neil, great news, I’ll check the ram, I think it has 3gb, so I’ll at least be able to go to 4Gb, do they do 4Gb ram cards now? Wow 8Gb would be souped up

Bob RigginsMemberThe new video cameras are a nightmare compared to the old tape versions.

noneMemberYeah, you really need to check (do some research on the internet) about the video format used by the video camera.
But again, that’s step one. Step two is how to use it in your favorite editing program (or system for that matter).

The Itinerant AnglerI just checked, it looks like Adobe Premier Elements 8 will handle your MOD video files.

Chad SimcoxMemberI edit on my 2.16GHz MBP (1GB of RAM) on Final Cut Studio 2. It can be a pain with HD video when doing multiple layers, but that’s to be expected.
I don’t know anything about iMovie but it should work fine on your MBP. Just make sure you never edit with files in an H.264 codec! Even the biggest/baddest systems will struggle with that codec in an editing program.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.
