Memberhi everyone,
i am about to pull the trigger on a waterproof camera…after researching through all the threads here, i am going to get one sent out to me tomorrow in time for my trip to frying pan this week.any thoughts on the Canon Powershot D-10 vs the Panasonic Lumix TS2?
i can’t decide between…
i am a total novice….pointer and shooter….just looking for best camera for angling….last question: i know that they stick you on warranties etc, but are the extra coverage plans necessary?
i am ordering from B&H Photo, per advice for IA readers…..
thanks!

MemberCan’t comment on the two models you mentioned, but I would seriously consider one of the Olympus Stylus Tough models on the market today. I have two Stylus- a 770SW and 870SW and they been workhorses on the water. Great value.

Steve K.MemberTodd,
I bought the Canon D-10 for my son…not so much to take UW shots….but just didn’t want him to fry the camera when it got a little damp. It survived a week of rolling around in the bottom of his kayak while fishing the Everglades/Keys. I have no complaints but can’t compare it to other UW P&S cameras since it’s the only one I’ve used. The only “con” I can see is it’s shaped like an egg…..so it is not real comfortable and compact resting in your shirt pocket.

MemberYou could look at these. They have been upgraded, but generally the cameras are still there and the same. http://texasflycaster.com/?s=waterproof+cameras

Brett ColvinMemberI don’t own the D-10, but in my experience Canon and Lumix (Panasonic) make the best point & shoot gear.

MemberI recently bought a Canon PowerShot D10 to replace an older (non-waterproof) P&S camera that had survived a couple dunkings, but finally bit the dust. I took the D10 to the river and captured the following shot of a mayfly on the water:

Here is the same photo cropped to zoom in on the fly:

I’m still amazed by the shot considering that I was standing in the river holding a rod in one hand and the camera in the other. It helps not having to worry about getting the camera wet.
I’m thinking the D10 deserves a lot of credit for this one. All of the modern waterproof P&S cameras seem to be amazing, though, so I don’t think you can go wrong.
