From last spring, looking forward to this coming one…from the local tailwater.Wish I could afford the new 70-200L,the minimum focusing distance sounds interesting…

Have you tried Tubes Jason or the 300 f4?
Our streams are only rarely clear enough to try this, but I think Id be tempted to use the 300 f4 and or tubes on a 100-400

    Jason,

I am headed to Los Roques in March. I would love to chat with you about your experience there. Would you mind sending me your email?

    John-
    I’ve always had trouble with shutter speeds on the 100-400,with a CP,tried tubes,but couldn’t get the results I wanted,the 300mm has too long of a min.focus for me.Would like to try a 200mm 2.0 with a 2.0x though.Never used a higher end prime,would like to.
Corey-thanks,those midges can see the fish coming and take off, more aware then I thought…
Tim-I’ll be ready when your internship is over, just let me know.

Jason, a 2x CP will have the same impact on your SSs as your CP, a 2 stop hit, it will also impact focus speed significantly. Add them both (CP and 2x tc) and your losing 4 stops.

You could look at Sing Rays CPs as they only reduce the light getting through by about 2/3 stop. They arent cheap though.

Incredible shots! Thanks for posting those, you have set the bar high. My goal is to get some shots of surface feeding fish on the Horn this season.
