    Hey All,
I’m new to the board but have enjoyed your posts for awhile. I’m fairly new to photography and am just learning the DSLR ropes. I’m headed to the Bahamas this spring and wondering if there are any must-haves in terms of filters, gear, or even lenses for getting good pictures in that environment.

I would definitely get a Polarized filter. Depending on your lens or lenses you may have to purchase more than one.

Definitely need a couple of microfiber cloths to clean any salt spray off of lenses/filters, particularly if you’re planning any fishing boat trips.

To add to what Buzz has said –

Modern DSLR’s have pretty well sealed electronics and lenses are also better than they used to be, but you still need to be careful with moisture coming in through the front of the lens and a UV filter (or pola) will help.
Also, if you’re out on boats or the flats day after day, don’t leave your camera sealed in a case or bag at night and when you get home – let it air out a bit.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

The most essential item is a polarising filter – plus a wide angle lens for those monster big blue skies. Look at getting some step down rings to allow you to use your polariser on smaller filter threads – I often use one of my 77mm polarisers on a 67mm thread with a ring, works great.

If the sky is looking good, really use it as a big part of your photos – don’t be afraid to get down low and put anglers against it if that makes sense.

And if you get any scuddy greay days, it can be tough to make them look anywhere half-dcent on the flats – use a longer lens and keep as tight as possible.

    You will have a blast.
