MemberYep! Love it. I use the new free software for Nikon to Macintosh called Sofortbild http://www.sofortbildapp.com/. This has become the de-facto software as of late and it works perfectly with all major Nikon bodies.
Canon shooters already have free software with their camera I believe but could be wrong.
Tethered shooting has changed my macro studio setup, especially in the clinic. For the home macro setup it literally saves your back a lot of stress because you don’t have to constantly bend down to look at the LCD. Furthermore, Lightroom can autoimport the images in a snap so your entire shoot is loaded and redundantly backed up at the end of the shoot. This workflow has the advantage of showing subtle flaws (like white balance, dust, etc) during the shoot so you can correct instantly; a huge time saver.
Tethered shooting is also invaluable if an art director or marketing person is involved in the shoot (i.e. product shots).

MemberTethered is the way to go in studio. I’ve shot in Capture Pro for the Eyelike back and in Aperture with a Nikon. Its nice to be connected to a big screen and you can control some camera functions depending on what software you use.

MemberI’m on a Nikon/PC and evaluating a number of software options. Anyone use other than Capture Pro? Also curious if anyone has used any cordless connections- wifi/diy cordless connection other than a cord?

MemberDavid/Neal- have you tried alternate software/tethering and seen any speed differences from shutter release to on screen preview?
From what I understand these progs are simply fancy file transfer interfaces bypassing the in cam storage.

MemberHi Neal
Lol- yep free is good:)))
Mac world seems a bit more financially democratic than the PC one:)))
I have a decent option that I have been using/testing for focus stacks that is fairly quick- under a second from release to raw preview.
Lol- I would think having clients see things right away would be a disadvatage not a plus- hey add baloons/animated smiley faces!!!!!:))))))))))
Have you seen any speed differences between asking the software to open images in a editing prog versus in it’s own preview and any differences between those options? Seems different progs handle that differently.
While I am seeing some usefull applications in studio as you mentioned re- feedback on the big screen, I am trying to couple tethering with remote camera triggering at a distance using a phototrap IR system with a laptop for viewing the triggered image at a distance. Cam/Flash sys is 50 ft away and triggered by the remote triggering sys, I am 50 ft from the cam with a laptop seeing the resultant image beamed back as fast as possible.
Why I was curious about speed differences etc

MemberI thought were an Apple user :-/
For PC, the free tethering software is here at DIYPhotobits http://www.diyphotobits.com/2008/05/23/free-tethered-shooting-script-for-nikon/
Download, install, enjoy!

Ben CochranMemberI agree with Neal. As a matter of fact, he turned me onto this software and I now use it as well. I have my files load to a folder that I open in Bridge, they both seem to load at about the same time. Also, I have my Bridge set to large preview so, each shot is loaded full screen.
It is best used for setup preview but I would never dream of using it on the full shoot. I prefer the AD to see only the shots that I am proud of. 😉 ;D
Will, drink some of our coolaid, we have been waiting for you on the Mac gifts side 😀

MemberHi Kendal- Ty for the link- I have seen that option and agree it looks like very interesting and fast. From what I understand he is working on a Pocket wizard /remote tether combo that might be even more tempting:)) camera and flash control combined:)))

J A Y M O R RMemberWill, I started using Camera Pro 2 with Lightroom. I love it for the macro work! I just went with gold tiped USB connections. It has been a lot of fun the last couple of nights!
