One of the benefits of a lot of travel where others pay for you having the privilege of spending lonely nights in nice hotels is the opportunity to get a lot of free stuff. Well I’ve made the decision to acquire a good Digital SLR—free of course—with hotel points thus far accumulated. My last experiences with an SLR were in my Vietnam days and 35mm TRIEX B&W fiIm. I have narrowed the choices down to two. Points wise the D90 is marginally more, but not much.
- Nikon D5000 with 3x AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR and 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR
- Nikon D90 with 5.8x AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
Here’s my question. What’s the better deal? Apart from the pure retail costs of each, which camera is going to be the best all around SLR for a serious amateur. Which one would you select for FREE. Whatever I get, I know it won’t stop there.
