about three years ago, i purchased a Nikon cool-pix. like an idiot, i let the guy at bestbuy encourage me to that one.
it is slow and not very good.

i am looking for another digital camera that is easier to use and easier to carry (ie. smaller?).

i am not a photographer or really any good, but i would enjoy taking some photos of the fish (when i get lucky enough to land ’em).

any suggestions on what to buy or where to buy? don’t want to spend a mint either….

    thank you in advance.

I would recommend getting one of the waterproof point-and-shoot cameras.

I have a Pentax W60 and I’m very pleased with it.  I take it out on the kayak and don’t have to worry about it.  I just stick it in my shirt pocket and pull it out when needed.  The Olympus waterproof is equally as good and may be rated for a little more depth.

For regular point and shoot digitals, I use Canons exclusively.  We use a lot of them at work.  I just bought a 12.1 mp A1100is with a 4X optical zoom.  I chose it over the A2100is, which has a 6X optical zoom, solely on the basis of the optical view finder in the A1100is.

If you buy a camera online, be very careful.

    I second Bob’s advice.

    Just to clarify…

JMW is exactly right, and I would be willing to bet that most of the pro photogs on this board would agree. I have bought numerous items from them and never once had any issue.

But Bob is right as well, and I have had friends duped by internet camera adds. One buddy bought a new Canon G9, at an unusually low price, only to find out that it did not come with a battery or any of the other needed accessories that would come from a reputable retailer. By the time he had added all of the accessories, he would have been better off to B&H, or even BestBuy.
