The Itinerant AnglerI finally had the chance to do some trout fishing and shoot some images. Decent trout fishing for us in Southern California includes a 6-7 hour drive to the Bishop/Mammoth Lakes area, which makes it a treat. I just got a new 10-22mm and was dying to try it out.
I have been struggling to get anything published lately and I am hoping to get some feedback/ creative critisism on these to help me grow:

and last but certainly not least, the photo every father waits for, my 8 year old sons first fly rod fish (we’ll work on the grip and grin for the next photo…lol) taken by a friend:

It was a great trip and I cannot wait to get back up there.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and/or tips.

MemberScott .. ‘Grats on the new lens! I’m always so pumped to play around with a new lens. I don’t know how qualified I am to critique, but I can suggest a couple of things that I like doing with that lens.
I like to get the camera on plane with the fish with just a little bit of angle (maybe just from the head of the fish). The lens itself gives so much of that cool perspective/distortion, that I try to minimize it at times.
I took a shot very similar to your #4 recently .. I like that low-in-the-grass angle with this lens.
Cool stuff of your boy … Its such a fantastic and special thing to share fly fishing with your kids.
Looking forward to seeing more of your shots with that 10-22 .. I bet you turn out some great beach fishing shots!

Now if I could only find more time to spend on the stream…

The Itinerant AnglerThanks for the replies/suggestions everyone!
Nice shots Scott. If you don’t mind, what are your first impressions of the 10-22?
John, so far I really like it. I am digging the warped perspective shots when wide open at 10mm. I do wish the focusing distance was a little shorter and that I could use a polarizer with it (it vignettes like shooting through a pipe, even with a slim filter). Minor cons, good lens overall IMO.
I guess what I am trying to say is lovely fish but the look might have played out better with bigger fish:))))))
Will, couldn’t agree more. Now I just have to find the bigger fish.
Hopefully this will just be the first of many fly fishing photos with my son.

Chad SimcoxMemberNice shots Scott. that lens looks like a fun one. I keep telling myself that I’m going to make it to the Lower O this year.
