John BennettMemberSo a couple weeks ago I drove 11hrs to provinnce where English isn’t the native tongue, stayed in a motel that I was happy to leave, ate whatever I could find that looked edible.
All so I could photograph some Wolves, Elk and Yotes.
Heres a few of the Yote images I came home with.

Hope you enjoyed them, it will be a long time before I revist them. ;D
1024 x 750 plus the Elk can be viewed here

John BennettMemberThanks all.

John, yeah it’s a Red Fox. I’ve been trying to get him/her for the last month. The alst 2 winters I’ve spent quite a bit of time scouting for Coyotes and Fox, be it sightings, tracks, scat, kill sites and trying to learn how to call them.
Early Jan I was scouting a new area and found alot of sign centering around the area that holds the Mallards Ive been shooting. Each weekend I’ve stopped in and have seen new tracks, Mallard Carcasses etc, so Ive been getting into postion at sun rise waiting for it to show itself and shooting the Mallards to pass time.
After getting that shot of it crossing the nearby ice which puts into the brush in behind the Mallards, I back tracked it…May have found its Den…Not sure. Hopefully (xing my fingers) I have and will be able to get more of it.

MemberThat would be sweet if you could get some shots of the fox emerging from it’s den.
Believe it or not, I was looking out the window at my inlaw’s house yesterday afternoon, and trotting through the backyard/greenbelt area was a gray fox! It completely took me by suprise, (and was trotting at a fast clip) as I would never in a million years have expected to see a fox there. I think the chances of seeing it again are almost nill. Maybe if I had a wounded rabbit call, or something. Is that what you are using John? Of course, then there are the neighbors who probably wouldn’t go for sustained wounded rabbit calls..

John BennettMemberYeah I use a Rabbit Distress primarily and a Yote howler (Primos Hot Dog) for yotes occassionally.

David AndersonMemberLovely shots John !
Must take great patience & planning to get good wildlife shots like these.
Love to see some wolves if you get them.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

John BennettMemberNo you don’t need to urine mark them yourself
Darn Will your taking all the fun out it. I was looking forwards to dressing in my snow camo, then marking my territory so to speaks as someone walked nearby 😉
Thanks for the suggestions. Ive thought about freezing some chicken scraps in a pail of water and using that, hadnt considered burying some.
Re the Den. I wasnt sure about that stuff so have erred of the side of caution thus far. I typically stay about 100 to 150 away any time im there and just scope out the snow in front after snow falls to see if theres fresh tracks, which so far there always has been.
Dont want to get busted before spring an Kits.
