MemberWhat is your favorite camera accessory?…. Be it a filter, battery brand, portable card reader, specific gig card, tripod, pack, neck-strap, let’s hear what accessory you won’t leave home without. I suppose a lens works too.

Yep, that’s mine as well – in combination with a diffuser of some sort you can do great lighting* with them.
* for an on camera flash. 😉

MemberScott or David,
Could one of you explain the off camera flash shoe cord. What are its advantages and primary uses?
Thanks guys,

MemberI’m sure you’ll get a more complete answer from Scott or David, but here’s a short one in the meantime.
This link shows an example of an off camera flash hot shoe cord, from Nikon:

The advantage is that it gives you a lot more flexibility with lighting your subject for a good photo. In particular, it’s very helpful to move the flash away from the camera when photographing people, so you don’t end up with “red eye” or with harsh shadows on a wall behind your subject.

Dusty, Mick covered it. I use it a lot for macro often with a tripod. And just hand hold the flash at whatever angle I want for effect (usually about 45 degrees).

Ben CochranMemberMy favorite accessory would have to be…. A smart English speaking assistant with accurate hearing… [ch9786]
Diddo on off camera hot shoe flash and the cord as well. I also use the cord for a better line of site with the SU800 to SB800’s, for wireless remote. Works out great in reducing the bulk of equipment/strobes required, in remote location shoots.
