Kevin, your report is encouraging.  Do you find the new version to be any easier to use (perhaps more intuitive?) or is your enthusiasm mostly feature related?

Curious if you are running on a Mac or PC.  I have been waiting for more than a month for a cross-platform (PC to Mac) upgrade to CS4.  I have been annoyed enough by the delay to call on two occasions.  The last time I called the Adobe guy said they didn’t have the Mac version available for shipment.  There is also a fair amount of grumbling on the www about CS4 for Macs, mostly related to the lack of 64-bit capability.  My vague understanding is that the new program will run a little slower on Macs and that the issue becomes important if the user will be working with exceptionally large files.

In any event, hopefully, my upgrade will get here soon.  Photography is just a hobby for me so the delay is not the end of the world but I would sure be ticked if there were pressing time constraints.

EDIT: my copy finally arrived yesterday.

I am on a Mac… a bunch of different macs. It is still the same old photoshop and to add features to it probably makes it more “Less” user friendly. I have been using PS since ’89 so again it is hard to say. because i know what is new and what is old. I have not seen a dramatic slow down if any – but again it is hard to say with my machines. They are all maxed out with ram which is where photoshop usually takes from the computer.

I am digging the adjustment presets and adjustment layers has been worked on quite a bit and the new masking options. I havent really played with the 3d stuf but we will see how it works.

If you use Layer Masking often, PS4 will be worth the upgrade. There is an entire adjustment tab on masking, including mask feathering, mask placements, opacity, etc. I used to have a trick of feathering my masks with gaussian blur, but they’ve taken care of that.
