So, my wife and I went out this past weekend to do a little fishing and photography.  Unfortunately, I still tend to mostly fish, instead of focus on the photography :P.  The images aren’t that great, but I think our river is pretty, and liked the light in the fall cypress trees.

Nice pics, John Michael, and nice model, too.

Thanks Mick.  I’m hoping to shoot/practice on river a lot more this season.

I like the nummer 3 and 4 pics. On all four of them the horizon looks a bit down on the left.

Aye – a couple degrees like that is most disconcerting.

But – great locations! I’m looking forward to getting up there to shoot myself – the color is obviously great right now.

    Nicely done.

It was not meant as a negative critique Kendal. ty

Nice images. I was there a couple of weeks ago doing an entomology class. It appears the water levels remain extremely low. shannon

Looks like “fish on” in picture three.

Shanon, I noticed you’re in Denton.  I was born and raised in Denton until I went off to college.  Yes, the Guad is running exremely low right now…about 56 cfs.

Matt, that would be cool to hook up sometime to fish and get some photos on the Guad.

Olle, good eye on the horizon being slightly off.  I have adjusted the horizons and have reposted them on my website and below.  For some reason, the larger links won’t update here on IA.

Update: It looks like the larger picks above in the first link finally updated.

Yup. Came to Denton to go to school, and except for a few lost years in Southern California, have been here ever since. Not a true local although I married into a local family. shannon

Love the colors and all of the exposed tree roots are really interesting features. Great stuff!

    #65592

Those roots give you a clear idea of the water levels as I am fairly certain water would be on or possibly submerging the roots if flows were running well (as opposed to drought conditions). shannon

The cypress trees are pretty cool, I agree.  Very unique.  The water would not quite completely submerge the roots at normal flows (300 cfs), but the water would be about halfway, maybe three quarters up the root system from what you see now.  If you look closely in a cuople of the images, you may be able to see a color difference in the tree trunk, which is the high water mark.

I’ve never been to Denton, but I’m a fan for two reasons:

    1. Slobberbone
    2. “The Best-Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton” by the Mountain Goats

Denton definitely has a music scene! Good to know it reaches so far – as I sometime feel like I am shouting (about it) in the wilderness. Other bands of note include, South San Gabriel, The Feds and nuclear polka Grammy winners Brave Combo (god are they old?). We also have regular shows by Texas legends Joe Ely, James McMurtry (yes son of Larry) and so many more. shannon

    Shannon,
Will you let me know the next time Joe Ely is up there?

Will do. There is typically a good Christmas show at Dan’s Silver Leaf. Last year it was a rare appearance of Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis together. Great show. shannon

Bruce? Is that Charlie’s brother? You know Charlie was married to one of the Dixie Chicks, until recently, but Charlie sings or covers “John O’Reilly,” a song I love.

    John…Sorry the musical high-jack!
