Cameron MortensonMemberScott…cool video/slide show.

MemberThanks, Corey. Cameron, that’s my square ender in the foreground. It’s a great boat for slower tailwaters. Floats higher, more roomy and stable, takes a 15hp if you need one, still white water capable. Interesting history since it was the first to evolve in the McKenzie boats–around 1920–and is the predecessor to the now more common double ender. Also known as a Rapid Robert.

MemberCool, Dave. Post some photos sometime. I’ve known of Roger’s website since he started it. Everyone who loves driftboats owes Roger a debt for researching and preserving their history. Roger collaborated with Ray Heater some, as I am sure you know. I built two of Ray’s RR kits.
My friend Karl, built one of Tatman’s kits a few years ago, and we have gotten together every September since. If anyone has a woodie and wants to join us for the event, it’s held the second weekend in September on the White River near Cotter. We are trying to plan a winter or spring fling also. We always have fun listening to comments on the boats from folks who do not know what they are. One man Sunday morning stopped me in a restaurant and wanted to know if the anchor foot release was a keel.

Ben CochranMemberThat is an awesome drift boat, Scott!! I love the wooden drift boats and the side-by-side comparison is great, you can really see a big difference in dimensions, in your photograph. I am guessing that the gentlemen, in the aft compartment of your boat, is just hanging out in the cocktail lounge?

You are welcome to come anytime. We will find a way to put you to work at the oars at least part of the time.
Ben – a lounge lizard in my boat? Nah. Everyone traded at the oars and all took turns rowing and fishing.
Thanks for the nice words everybody.

MemberScott,
Ray heater is one of the last few guys really running a boat shop.

MemberVery nice, Dave.
Both my boats have been 16 footers, and I really want a 14 footer for my personal use. The design seems more pure on the smaller boat.

Memberhere is the little 13 footer, “the trapper”
Sep 17, 2008 at 5:45 pm #65548anonymous
MemberAwesome, Dave. How do you find rowing the trapper with the oarsman’s bench so far into the bow?
Ray has a 14-foot RR I really like the looks of.

MemberCool video. I think that’s A.J.’s walk-in winter camp where the T-Pee is set up. Cool idea.
A.J. is also suppose to have a stable of boats now, 12-13 last I heard.

That is a gem of a quote, especially when read from a cubicle! Where did it come from?
